Larry W. and his wife Mary Jane were so kind as to invite me and Larry D. up to their family’s cabin in the pines. On the private lake the fishing was excellent as the large mouth bass were hitting well almost every day. We were joined by a bald eagle who observed us closely and snatched up bluegills we tossed to him. That was the icing on the cake! For the eagle video, go to:

First bass. A sign of things to come…

We each caught one keeper on Tuesday. They were delicious thanks to Larry W’s culinary skills.

The #1 method for big bass was using small panfish for bait. I caught 6 like this on Tuesday.

Cave in the sandstone

Remains of a 19th century shipwreck on the shore. There was more below but hard to see.

The churchyard cemetery had some old headstones, this was the oldest.

I thought this may have been a relative on my mom’s side… but no.

Bayfield, WI on the mainland. Nice little town.

This is a lagoon on the north end of Madeline and is part of Big Bay state park. I caught a couple pike in here one day.

Storms in the area kicked up the surf.

Kayaking excursion into Lake Superior… after a mile, we beached ourselves and let the younger crowd paddle the remaining 4 miles around the wind-swept point.
